- The text we display in any medium is restricted by the limits of the outermost container. A bigger container can take more text. A smaller container takes less. In traditional printing, on paper, the limits of the outermost container are easy to perceive and relate to. Paper typically has a specific size. A four letter size, legal, and we know that as long as we stick to one specific paper size, it will be consistent. Screens are different in this respect. A screen and from it, the size of a browser viewport, can be any size, and it's only limited by the size and number of available pixels. A browser window can be one-by-one pixels or 1000-by-1000. This poses a challenge for typography, that until the introduction of the world wide web was more or less non-existent.
