- The beauty of a cross functional team is people come at problems from different perspectives. Unfortunately, these different perspectives can lead to disagreements about the best way to do something. Leaders need to resolve this conflict. They have to look at different ideas and get to resolution. When there is a conflict of ideas, take things back to a logical level. Have each person highlight the costs and benefits of their idea. Have them bring supporting analysis whenever it's possible. Have a team problem solving meeting where each person presents their idea or recommendation. Have the team debate the merits of each idea. Sometimes, you'll have a clear winning idea. Other times, new and better ideas may come from these conversations. There will be those times where you as the cross functional team leader will have to decide and resolve the conflict. Make a fact based decision wherever possible.
