- The manager could possibly oversee a team representing five generations in the workplace. That is a phenomenon not seen before in history. How the members of a multi-generational group get along will depend largely on the manager, who must be able to encourage each age group to work together. The manager should understand how to help them move beyond the generational labels. Doing a little research to familiarize yourself with generational distinctions will help you to build a collaborative approach to managing the team. Traditionalists are those born during the years 1900 to 1945. Traditionalists in the workplace built a career around company loyalty during a period of tremendous manufacturing growth.
