- Did you know it takes at least 23 minutes to refocus after an interruption, even if the interruption was only five minutes? Interruptions happen, but it's important to learn the distinction between interruptions and things that are just part of your job. In this lesson, you'll learn about common interruptions you may face, how to combat these distractions, and ways to increase your productivity. Interruptions can fall into three categories: people, paper, and environment. Each should have a priority system. First up people. Donors should always be first priority. Any interruption from a donor is likely a way to deepen the relationship. Within your organization, you should prioritize interruptions from leadership and board of directors, then from coworkers and volunteers.
