- Do you have a personal hero? Maybe it's a parent, a sibling, a friend, a historical figure or even a celebrity. Whoever it is, they've influenced the person you are today. And as a fundraiser, you'll have many ethical influences. As a person with the value system who understands the difference between right and wrong, the organization you work for should too. The organization should have a strong ethical culture, starting with a clearly articulated code of conduct and compliance program. You should be able to observe how well these standards are integrated in the workplace and see everyone following them, including leaders and the board of directors. Their behavior and willingness to accept tough, even uncomfortable questions can affect the entire organization's reputation and livelihood.
