An introduction to safety data sheets (SDSs)

- Okay. I use the term Safety Data Sheets several times in the last video. So let's take a look at those. Safety Data Sheets or SDS for short, used to be called Material Safety Data Sheets or MSDSs in some parts of the world, including here in the US. The name was changed to align with the naming conventions in the GHS standards that we've been discussing. This means that if your HAZCOM program contains sheets that are titled Material Safety Data Sheets, they're probably old and might be out of date. Contact the manufacturer to see if they have a replacement that's an SDS that complies with the GHS standards. For every product listed on the chemical list, the HAZCOM program should contain a corresponding safety data sheet. The product name, the manufacturer, and the product ID numbers should match between the list, the SDS and the actual container of product in the workplace. Again, as I said earlier, manufacturers…
