Filling up and filling down
- [Instructor] We might see empty values in our data table. Sometimes we can filter them out, but that's not always the case. There are a few different ways we can mitigate this problem. One is by filling in the blank rows with the value in the previous or the next row. Let's explore a few examples of this in two existing queries that I put together. We often see these type of formats in PivotTables in Excel, for example. I want to put the year in the first column so that it extends down until we see the next year start. To do this, we right-click on the Year column, and we'll choose Fill, Down. So notice this doesn't do anything, and the reason is we can't Fill, Down if they're empty or blank cells. Instead, they have to display Null. So we'll go to our Changed Type step. Change this to Whole Number. We'll choose to insert it. And we now see the year extend down the entire column with their respective months within the year. We can also Fill, Up as well. In this case, we do the same…
