- There's a huge advantage that comes with having influence, especially at work. Team members work with you more passionately. Authority figures take your ideas seriously. And most importantly, it positively impacts your reputation. A lot of people sell themselves short and never share their ideas, thinking, well, if I'm not the VP or CEO, why would I, or should I, have influence? However, this is a poor mindset to have, especially as a product manager. There are a lot of ways to gain influence without having a fancy title or multiple years of tenure. And as a product manager, influence is a really vital tool. Let's dive in and talk about some ways to sharpen your influence. To be influential, you first have to be visible. If your colleagues don't even know you, how can they trust you or listen to your ideas? Make sure you're a familiar face and build your internal network.
