- [Voiceover] Of the licenses presented in this lesson, the MIT license is the most similar to the BSD license presented earlier in this course. Like the BSD, the MIT has academic roots. In this case the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. And like the BSD, the MIT is brief. The MIT and BSD licenses are often confused with each other as being the same thing due, mostly, to their similar structure. In fact the MIT and BSD licenses are quite different. If you recall, the BSD license concerns itself with making sure covered code contains the license and that both source and binary code are covered. In addition, the BSD also states a prohibition on using the copyright holder name as well as any contributor names as part of any promotional effort. That's about the extent to which the BSD license goes. The one similarity the MIT and BSD licenses share is general disclaimer language, albeit the word choice is different.
