Requirements: A whole new challenge

(upbeat music) - In ancient times, when I started managing technical projects, we focused our effort on two types of requirements: functional and non-functional. It was usually straightforward. Functional requirements are the actual functions performed by the technical components we were producing, like purchasing a book, displaying your account balance, or setting the desired temperature in your house. Functional requirements focus on what the system needs to deliver. Non-functional requirements focus on solution characteristics and how the technical component works, such as response time or how a system would be displayed on a green or color computer terminal. Like I said, I started managing projects in ancient times. Non-functional requirements are sometimes referred to as technical requirements. Today, there's a whole new emphasis on requirements.
