- To mass email a ton of reporters, or to not mass email a ton of reporters? That is the question. Let's be honest, though. We all know the answer is not to mass email reporters. Here's why. Personalization is crucial, not only to spark interest with a reporter, but to establish and maintain a personal relationship with them. Say you want to pitch as many reporters as possible, you're already crunched for time and might be tempted to send out an email blast, as it could be the most efficient way to get the pitch out in a reasonable amount of time. Play the numbers, if you will. While this may benefit you in the short term, it creates a huge disadvantage in the future since reporters see right through a generic email. Reporters want to feel special, too. Say you have 60 reporters you want to contact. Consider taking 10 and really personalizing them, and putting in the work. You may be surprised at the ROI.…
