- [Instructor] Communication between IoT systems is essential so that all devices can interact with one another. In this segment, we'll discuss the importance of developing standard protocols for the IoT and the role of the Open Connectivity Foundation. Smart Home IoT devices are everywhere and perform many functions such as opening doors, turning on lights, and notifying us if we need milk. Unless devices use a standard protocol, they probably won't be able to work together. Having a common language so that all devices can communicate is crucial in the development of the IoT. Let's talk about why this is important. In the early days of computer networking, several protocols were used that included X.25, Apple Talk and IPX/SPX. The problem was similar to what we face today with the IoT in that even if the devices were on the same network, they couldn't communicate with other devices that didn't speak their language.…
