From the course: Social Success at Work

Components of success

- Success has to be one of the most studied and talked about topics ever. Though sometimes, I think people have a slightly oversimplified view of how to achieve success. Many times, the thinking goes like this: Success is really about being smart. Well, certainly, being intelligent is essential. IQ does have a positive relationship to success at work. However, you do not have to be a genius to be successful. Others like to say that success is all about hard work. Sure, hard work plays a big role. A strong work ethic helps you build more expertise, get more done, and attract others who respect your work ethic. But, like intelligence, it's not sufficient. The most interesting ingredient that is often undervalued is the social side of success. This refers to various social activities that build the context needed to amplify your intelligence and hard work. Hi, I'm Todd Dewett, author and coach. And I'm very happy to share this fact with you. We know a lot about achieving success. In this course, we'll talk about success at work by addressing how to build productive relationships, understanding how to network, engaging political dynamics wisely, and adopting a service mentality. Good news, these are skills. Which means you can learn them. So let's get started.
