The idea is that when you go cycling or running or swimming or whatever you do, you need to record your activity and upload it to an exercise tracking in social network site, like Strava, so other people can see it and they can get all the data and compare themselves with each other. If you don't record or upload your activity, like the very sad time, I rode up the very steep seven mile canyon by my house without pressing start on my cycling computer, it's like it never happened. Now this idea of uploading your activity and making the data available for you and others is one example of what people call the quantified self.
