- When you work remotely, or at home, it's true that you don't have to deal with interruptions from your colleagues or your boss, but it also means that you don't have direct in-person contact with them when you do need them. So, let's think about a few best practices that will help you stay in touch effectively. Your first task is to decide how you will monitor all relevant electronic connections. I'm referring to your professional communication channels, not solely personal channels, like Facebook. Generally, personal channels are off limits if you want a productive work day. Now, there are several professional channels you might use including email, texts, instant messaging, Skype, and so on. Earlier, I mentioned an approach for managing email by having it on part of the day, and off a part of the day, so that it helps you while distracting you very little.
