- Let's talk about Windows Server iSCSI. I'm sure you are all familiar with, or at least heard about iSCSI and SAN Storage System. We will talk about that with respect to Windows server. So iSCSI is a TCP IP based storage network standard for connecting data storage service. This is used in Windows server for creating logical storage area network, also known as SAN. So iSCSI will create SAN by emulating the local storage bus subsystem. However, unlike some of the SAN protocol, iSCSI requires no specialized cabling or connectivity devices. It basically uses Windows underlying subsystem to create the logical storage area network. So let's take a look at iSCSI components. First component is IP network, iSCSI uses the standard network interface adapters and also the standard ethernet protocol network switches to connect to iSCSI storage network.
