In #addition to new #strategic #investors, the round #included LRVHealth, Health Velocity Capital, Martin Ventures, and Optum Ventures. Flare Capital Partners #served as the round's lead investor. In addition to #speeding up the #development of its own primary care clinics, the #company plans to use the funds to grow and scale its #private-labeled, #integrated clinical solutions. The company will start by #forming a value-based #partnership with an #enormous #Medicare Advantage #health plan with the #goal to open #clinics for seniors in #Montana later this #year. Greater Good Health is a #healthcare #organisation which #promotes and #broadens access to value-based, #holistic primary care. It is led by founder and CEO Sylvia Hastanan. Introducing a new “pay-vider” model 🧑⚕️🧾 Harbor Health is a startup looking to bring a new care model that integrates primary and specialty care services in Central Texas and just raised $95.5 million of funding. It was founded by S. Claiborne "Clay" Johnston (1st Dean at Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin and I got to work for years ago), Eric Scott (investor at 8VC), and Tony Miller (serial health benefits entrepreneur who sold 3 of his companies to UnitedHealthcare). Clearly this team is equipped to take on this ambitious challenge of managing people’s health while keeping costs low. 🩺 They started to provide care in 2022, and in that short period of time they had 25,000 appointments and other modes of communication with 43 clinicians. They plan to stand up the coverage company by building out all the #healthbenefits, enrollment services, coverage models, and consumer services to service large and small employers. They’re already working with other #payers on #valuebasedcare contracts. In the next two years, they’re continuing to expand across Austin then to other major cities in Texas, which is experiencing rapid growth. I continue to be concerned with the amount of investment insurers are making in providers. So far there is no evidence that this reduces costs or improves outcomes so call me skeptical about Elevance invest $4B. Even worse this is a joint venture with Private Equity who are notorious for prioritizing profits over patients. Lastly, this is a "risk" arrangement where there is downside risk for providers and they appear to be focused on chronic patients. More perpetuation of the "sick-care" model? I would suggest the Fed's need to take a look at this deal, but it appears that is already happening. It's not a great sign about the trajectory of healthcare when the FTC, DOJ, and HHS have to develop a portal dedicated to healthcare Mergers & Acquisitions, but at least someone is taking notice. https://lnkd.in/geXpKTrU

I don't have much skepticism that this new healthcare entity (Summa Health + HATco) will do some very innovative things and will noticeably improve several key outcomes. Cliff Deveny, Marc Harrison, and General Catalyst are no dummies. My concern is this is such a unique combination of variables (people, $$$, tech, situation, etc.), only a small % of other healthcare orgs will be able to adopt it.
