As we talk about population growth and control, we should also discuss how other factors contribute to it. Much research has shown a strong correlation between gender equality and population growth. Countries with better career and education opportunities for women, coupled with better access to reproductive health care, have shown to slow down the growth rate. However, in other countries where women have limited access to such tend to have higher birth rates. As we tackle inclusivity, we also wish to include in the discussion the future generations who might not be able to fully enjoy what we enjoy now if we don't take action in creating an Earth that lives and sustains lives. That includes having a world where women are live with respect, dignity, and autonomy in their choices. ~Have you caught up with the latest viral TV series clip featuring Smriti Irani at the Lok Sabha?~ Smriti Irani, renowned for her role in "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi," recently addressed women's health and period leave in a speech that left much to be desired. As the Minister of Women and Child Development since 2019, her perspective lacked nuance and empathy, particularly regarding menstruation and paid menstruation leave. Honestly, it was not her opinion of menstrual leave that really frightened me. But the mere reminder that: 1) This incident serves as a stark reminder that our journey towards gender equality and compassion has a long way to go. 2) The lack of understanding about the female anatomy, coupled with opinions from influential figures, underscores the need for education and advocacy. 3) Unfortunately, it reflects a broader issue where many women themselves may not be allies to their own gender. Beyond the discourse, the real-world implications are evident in the rising crimes against women, making our cities increasingly unsafe. The imperative now is for educated allies who can champion equity, equality, knowledge, and compassion. Secondly, proper menstrual hygiene reduces the risk of infections and health complications. Moreover, addressing menstrual health promotes gender equality by ensuring girls have equal access to education and opportunities without being hindered by their menstrual cycles. Finally, it empowers girls by fostering a positive attitude towards their bodies and breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation.
