A silent letter is a letter that is not pronounced when a particular word is pronounced. Although, it is not always silent in every word. Letters such as b, c, e, gh, k, n, p, t, w etc are most times silent in words. Let us examine words with silent T. Listen Fasten Whistle Apostle Soften Christmas Pestle Rustle Thistle Bustle The letter T is also silent in a lot of French loanwords such as beret, ballet, crochet, ricochet, rapport, gourmet, buffet, valet, debut etc. The rules for silent T are these: If you see -sten, -ften, -stle, you should assume that the T is silent.

The dancer didn't know about this, neither did the audience. 😮 The response was massive: "A roar followed". Jaffe felt into the moment and her inspired action brought a "needed jolt" ⚡ . Growing up, I resented the fact that I trained in Irish dancing and not ballet. It’s been 10 years since I’ve retired and I’ve got 10 lessons I want to share with you: 1// The value of repetition. 2// Dancing is a reflection of life. 3// Discipline is a choice, not a punishment. 4// Being at the bottom and working your way up. 5// Sometimes other people can see what you can’t. 6// Stage presence is something that comes from within. 7// Listening is a whole-body activity and an active process. 8// Trusting yourself is more important than trusting what others say. 9// Remember only you know what you did to get here, but others will feel it. 10// Your body is not something you can boss around and expect to get in line. — Which one resonates with you right now? The MoBBallet Roll Call is being revised and expanded!⁠ In 2015 the Roll Call began as a crowd sourced database of the names of professional Black ballet dancers. Founder Theresa Ruth Howard wanted to make this list a Black ballet Wikipedia, and we gradually expanded to design biography pages or as we call them “Artist Pages” for every name on the list. ⁠ This is no easy task given the lack of documentation on Black participation (overall) but specifically in areas like the classical arts.⁠ ⁠ We conducted deep dive research earlier, and more obscure artists, and even gathered information from their former colleagues to cobble together even the slightest of bios for them. For more contemporary artists we pulled existing bios in company, personal websites, and festival or guesting listings. Although we do not function like Wikipidea where anyone can make changes at any time we encourage artists to view their pages and should they like to make amendments (update information, add or change photos and links) send all the information as you would like it to appear and we will place it in the queue to be applied. ⁠ We issued a call to action encouraging dancers to submit the information they would like on their page. Unfortunately there was little response. However we do not let that stop us. That being stated. We once again encourage artists to share their information by emailing. What’s a Persona? ————————————— Dance edition. According to Agile Alliance, Personas are synthetic biographies of fictitious users of the future product. It gives opportunities for perspective. It’s like using a song for dance. There are no ballet songs, jazz songs or tap songs…. There’s just songs. Take Bohemian Rhapsody for example. When I hear this song I think of ballet and jazz. But this dancer below had a different inspiration. Some dancers will choose tap. (And so on.) Same song, different strengths and outcomes. Translate it to Product: Same Product, different perspectives and outcomes. Personas = Perspective.

Simplicity is the key. My ballet master, who was a first-generation Joffrey soloist and principal, taught a technique that was rooted in fundamentals. I affectionately dubbed it the "Mr. Potato Man" technique. It was a very straightforward approach to ballet that allowed me to adapt to style. So, when I would audition for roles, there would be dancers who were limited and brought their "Swan Lake" arms into every single piece of choreography, while I could adapt to any style presented to me and spend more time bringing my own personality to the work. Believe it or not, this approach works with all forms of art and the development of AI/ML products.

The beauty of imperfection… I watched this conversation with Misty Copeland yesterday where she talked about perfectionism and ballet. She shared that to her, dancing is all about self expression and storytelling rather than being perfect. I found the conversation really powerful - the idea that dancing (and life) is about being present in the moment and about how you respond to it when you do make mistakes. That’s where the beauty is: in recovering and responding. I see opportunity for learning and connection and vulnerability and courage and growth and comraderie and even confidence. What has perfect ever done for us? A false sense of security and nothing but expectations to do it over again? I choose imperfection. What about you? (Link in comments)
