President Zelenskyy of Ukraine almost cost me $5000 and ruined my meetup Here is how it happened and what I learned 1/ Everything that can go wrong, will go wrong It was an hour before our DTC Toronto meet-up. I wish I could say everything was going well, but it wasn’t. Lots of people couldn’t come because I moved the event earlier. Jake Karls and Mike Fata were coming directly from another event for CHFA. Aaron Spivak plane got delayed. One of the new girls in our team forgot the balloons, tags, and food. Karen Danudjaja and Margaret Coons speaking gifts were crushed on the way to the event. Not a great start. To add to that, an attendee texted me that all the roads are blocked off to our meet-up... There were currently hundreds of barricades and police officers all around the city. I almost lost it. What was going on?! Turns out President Zelenskyy and our Prime Minister of Canada were having a meeting. Right across the street from our meetup. Great timing, am I right?! 2/ Learn to think on your feet We had to act fast! I stopped minding all the minute details and focused on a solution. Right away, our team: > sent out emails to all our attendees > Found alternative routes and disseminated the information > stalled time so everyone could get to the meet-up on time Despite the chaos and unexpected changes… The meet-up still happened. People found their way and had an absolute BLAST! 3) Find the magic in the unexpected Sometimes, life throws you unexpected challenges… Ours came in the form of a global meeting and blocked paths (literally). But with a little determination and grit, you can make magic. We found a way around it and the event was a success. Any rollercoaster stories from your businesses?
