What is the man with a personal fortune of over $100 billion and considered by many as the most successful investor of this century looking for when hiring someone? Integrity is the key trait that a person must possess to join the team of American businessperson and philanthropist Warren Buffett. Now at 93 years old, Buffett created a plan in 2006 to donate over 80% of his wealth, a figure that was raised to 99% in 2020, according to Britannica. Do you agree with Buffett? What do you consider to be the most important quality a candidate must have to be hired by you?

3 Reasons businesses struggle to hire good people: 1. Lack of understanding about what's important to the best candidates 2. They don't know who they're competing with for talent, and therefore can't make their offers attractive 3. They don't lead with the WHY behind the work. The mission is more important to people than companies think. We've consulted with a few charities and mission-driven orgs recently, and solving these issues is actually quite straightforward when you have the right data and strategy in place. Question for my network, does mission matter to you when you're looking for a new role? Or is it all about salary, working pattern etc.?

Let’s talk about manners in business. Couple days ago, I got a message from a student, which he asked me about where he could apply for my non-profit. Then, out of the blue, he throws a middle finger at me. Here’s what I will say. LinkedIn is a professional community, and it no place to mess around to fool people. People like this, especially students examining such behaviour is an absolute disappointment and is the reason why many employers, like us hesitate to hire them, or consider them to be serious. It is important to consider the implications of one’s actions— a foolish choice by one person can destroy the public image of the entire group the person may be in.

Leading the Fundraising Recruitment Team🌐 Helping people find the best jobs, and charities find the best people🔎 Champion of EDI and inclusive recruitment 🤝 Over 17 years working in corporate partnerships ✨
Hello LinkedIn Network! I'm now well into my second year at Charity People, and realised my LinkedIn network is full of so many more amazing people who I may not have had the chance to have a proper chat with; so I'd like to do a big "Hello" to my connections, explain a bit about my background, my brilliant team, and the work we do! I'm a very lucky dad of 3-under-3, am originally from Newcastle, a former Corporate Fundraiser of 17 years where I was super lucky to have worked for the likes of The National Autistic Society, YouthNet (now The Mix Charity), Living Streets and Dogs Trust. I made the move last year to Charity People, where I now lead the absolutely mint Fundraising Recruitment Team working on every type and level of fundraising role (hey Katharine Tinker-Switzer and Tanya White!) We are also about to announce our newest team member who starts next week...more on that later! Some of the things I love💚 Working in true partnership with charities; Breaking down barriers for candidates; An accessible process with EDI at the heart of everything (for example looking at type of materials, interview format, questions in advance, application process, and feedback, language and much much more!); Charities who are open to new ways of recruiting into their team; Receiving supportive feedback for candidates; Looking beyond the sector and having a skills based search; Investing in people's personal development; Embracing a holistic definition of flexible working; Creating a tailored approach to each search; Transparency both ways; Challenging the past way of recruitment - we must do better! Some of the things I really do not love 💔 Barriers to people applying for jobs; Saying roles are flexible but not tailoring them to each persons' situation; Lengthy application processes; Unnecessary tasks or asking waaaaay too much from a task; Too many interview stages; Expecting to find a unicorn candidate; Rehashed job descriptions from years ago; Dismissing out of sector candidates; Short turnarounds; Leftfield questions during an interview; Making presumptions of people; Asking about gaps in employment; Not showing the salary; Asking candidates their current salary; Lack of transparency; Not giving feedback! As a Fundraising Recruitment Team, we really champion working in partnership with the amazing charities we represent. We all have previously worked in the sector and have genuine passion to change the sector in a positive and collaborative way with partners. If you are a candidate or charity who wants to find out more about my approach. search process, and the values I embed throughout every search, get in touch, I'd love to talk. I'll leave you with a rare photo of my beautiful family, apologies for the absolute chaos; getting a photo of all five of us is pretty much impossible! #CharityPeople #Reflections #CharitySector #Fundraising #Partnership #InclusiveRecruitment

Your post going viral doesn't equal you getting a job any faster than the next person. I feel like I still made little progress and was hoping to hear back about a job a lot sooner. I have been speaking with people daily and jobs have been getting sent my way that I've applied for but still no real progress, and a few rejection letters. I still have not received any offers. It's about to be mid-May and I was hoping to have landed something soon so I can pay rent next month. I don't want to be under this stress anymore. Here are a few things I have noticed through out the week. Things I have noticed: 1. Communication is everything - a lot of the people who initially reached out to me have also ghosted me. 2. Hiring isn't a priority to the recruiter cause they already have a job so your bills and things you are falling behind on don't matter. 3. My process at one job will most likely not match the process at the job I am interviewing for. So no matter what I will have to learn the way you do things and you can't determine if I am able to do that by asking me about my "Strategy" at another company. 4. It's nice when recruiters and hiring managers actually care and notice the small things. I believe someone truly wants the job and being passionate about their career should be a component of why they get it over just skills and experience. Get back into training employees instead of just throwing them in. Set them up for success. 5. Also, when screening a candidate please explain what the hiring manager is looking for or at least know so when you present the candidate to them they don't say, "Oh they don't have this experience and I am looking for this specific experience" meanwhile you never asked the candidate if they had that experience to know if they did have it or not so now they are disqualified." Another week. A few steps closer. Hoping to be hiring by the end of this month. My GoFundMe is still active and anything helps until I am able to secure a job! Thank you so much to those who have given its appreciated and has been incredibly helpful! Dear Job Market- This may be a lengthy message warning already. I wish I didn’t have to write this but due to the current state of the job market it’s hard for us 40 year olds & up so here’s my story. See right now I’m unemployed due to an economic fall. I’ve been sending applications, networking over and over to receive “unfortunately we went with someone else” or no response at all. I stay positive but sometimes it can take a toll you see. I have the experience, I have the degree so why aren’t they considering me? I know I’m not the only one suffering in this job market as I read this often on linked in. I stay prayerful & resilient that the struggle for many of us will end. Now before many judge I thought I did the right thing & followed directions of our hire ups and went to college as I was advised. But now after struggling for work over and over again I’m wondering why I was fed lies. Go to school they said get your degree they said jobs will hire you and you’ll make more they said. I’d be wrong to say I’m frustrated at the current state which let many of us down. All I have to show is student loans and sometimes I feel like the clown. How do I look my 8 year old in the eye and tell her college degrees are the way to be when I’ve been struggling for work and I have a total of 3? I don’t want to live like a millionaire I just want to have the basics you see, not the fancy cars big house just food on the table, a place for my daughter to thrive and live the life she deserves comfortably. Ans while I will always cheer my linkedin friends who change or shift careers, I continue to apply and apply but get no where. I’ve broadened my search and willing to relocate. I’m willing to what’s needed to get a better position in this current state. At my age entrepreneurship may be the way for me. So now I’m in the process of starting a business to build a generational key. But that hasn’t stopped the bills too. My bills are due, car note too, but nothing coming in makes it hard to make do. So linkedin fam as much as I try to do it alone I need help as I type this from my phone. If anyone knows of opportunities please kindly share & tell. Anything helps words of encouragement etc networking opportunities I will pay it forward and help someone as well. To be down right honest as embarrassing as it may be ,I can also use some assistance and placed my GoFundMe me as a last resort I couldn’t bare. So I end this with I still I have hope in our job market & economy. I still have hope for those with degrees I still have hope for those who want a better life like me. And and employers willing to take a chance with me you’ll have the most genuine hardworking people oriented employee you’ll see. Hello LinkedIn Family....... 🙋♀️ I recently got reintroduced to a beautiful story said by a very famous person, and I rushed here to put it out into your feed because you might never know, for some of you guys out there, all that is need right now for you might be this. The story goes like, a child badly wanted a butterfly and kept chasing it so hard with his net but ended up shooing away most of them. He got so tired of chasing the butterfly and was very disappointed to see all of them fly away. He was so desperate for it and kept trying but was in vain. After some time, he just sat down and was looking at his other friends catch butterflies with their nets. Being deprived of hope and filled with desperation, he just kept his net down and sat with his hands folded not knowing what to do. He just turned his attention to other beautiful things and started to enjoy the present....................... 🦋 ............................................... 🦋 That was when a big, beautiful and a colorful butterfly came to him and sat on his nose where he could see the butterfly just up close to his eyes. He was absolutely thrilled and happy to witness this. Moral of the story my friends, if we want something so bad, sometimes we tend to push that away with all the desperation. But if we just focus on doing our hard work and enjoying the journey along the way, what we desire may just come and fall in our lap. Times are hard and we do hit our rock bottom sometimes, but never lose your spark and hard work, you may never know, your butterfly may just be around the corner 💫 . #motivation #opentowork #hiring #recruiters #UKrecruiters #internationalstudents

Hey Job Seekers! In the last 12 hours I have had the same conversation with 2 different people, and when that happens, I feel the impression to talk to y’all about it. When you have lost your job, it’s really tempting to shut yourself from the world and sit behind a screen sending out application after application, hoping that the next one is going to get you that interview. Problem with that is it’s way too hard to fall into depression when you do that. To keep yourself in a positive place and moving forward while you are looking for your next role, make sure you are taking the time to get out and be among people. Networking meetings are a great place to go. How about a walk with a friend in the park or volunteer with a local charity? Hell yourself by getting out and being with people! #cartergarvin, #opentowork, #jobsearch, #jobhunt, #jobseeker, #hiring, #recruitment, #jobsearching, #remotework, #ibja, #layoff, #laidoff, #recruiting, #talentacquisition
