In colon cancer, ctDNA is a strong predictor for disease recurrence and survival after surgery, and can provide early indications of the response (or resistance) to systemic therapy. Although guidelines have not been firmly established for the cutoff values, many studies have demonstrated possible optimal cutoff levels that will enable an accurate clinical interpretation of ctDNA analysis. At these levels, ctDNA outperforms both cfDNA and CEA measurements, and it can accurately predict residual disease, tumor recurrence, and disease progression.
