Accelerating to Zero Coalition’s Post

Volvo Cars announced the end of diesel production at our Climate Week NYC event this past fall and with this latest milestone are well on their way to meeting the pledge they committed to under the #ZEVDeclaration. This positive momentum is an important step towards a global emission-free #transportation sector. #mustgofaster #acceleratingtozero #zeroemission

In 1979, our first ever diesel car rolled off the production line, now, 45 years later, we watch as the last one does the same. In early February, our colleagues in Ghent built their last diesel-powered car, a V60. And just the other day, our plant in Torslanda saw its last XC90 diesel car roll off the production line. These events mark a huge milestone in our company’s 97-year long history. With this move, we’re taking a giant step toward our ambitions of becoming a fully electric car maker, as well as achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. However, our electrification journey doesn’t only include our electric vehicles, but also our strong portfolio of plug-ins and mild hybrids creating a bridge to the future. This is the end of an era, but we can’t wait for our electrifying future. #VolvoV60 #VolvoXC90 #EndofDiesel
