It is my hope that you have taken a pause to appreciate the rich history of the Black experience, and/or have found a way to celebrate the many achievements contributed by Black people. This Black History Month, we're proud to spotlight the outstanding individuals within our team at NYSERDA, whose unwavering commitment drives our progress. This insightful Q&A with Anzala B. Wilson-Alozie, J.D., Director, Energy and Climate Equity celebrates diversity and resilience. ➡️ What do you do in your role at NYSERDA? As Director of Energy and Climate Equity, my work includes driving NYSERDA’s Climate Equity Strategy to achieve an inclusive clean energy economy by reducing burden and increasing benefits to historically marginalized communities. This includes designing meaningful & inclusive pathways for community/stakeholder engagement centered on equity impacts and climate justice as well as ensuring awareness, education, and access to energy efficient programs & benefits. ➡️ What led you to work at NYSERDA/Clean Energy? My interest in clean energy was sparked by recognizing the disproportionate impact that climate change has on vulnerable communities and the critical need for holistic, collaborative solutioning between communities/community-based organizations, private sector, and government informed by those with lived experience. ➡️ Who inspires you or has inspired your passion for clean energy? I am mostly inspired and motivated by communities of color who remain on the frontlines advancing energy equity work by dismantling systemic oppression and co-designing innovative, sustainable, and generational transformative change. ➡️ One cause or nonprofit that you are passionate about is? I am deeply passionate about creating youth development opportunities and organizations like Girls, Inc. – an organization whose vision includes “powerful girls in an equitable society”. Girls, Inc. programming includes an intentional focus on exposing & encouraging girls to explore STEM careers which includes, the emerging clean energy field.

Candidates are those who are using their spaces and places to make an impact in their community. Their properties are used to address issues of food insecurity, affordable housing, childcare, and recidivism or to create revenue and jobs. These are the types of projects that will be considered. We are looking for those projects that exemplify what it means to be Fishing Differently™ for social impact. We praise and celebrate those who share in our passion for this work. 🌟✊ Celebrating Black History Month: A Commitment to Health Equity ✊🌟 As we honor Black History Month, I'm reminded of the profound impact that social determinants of health have on individuals and communities. At Oxbridge Health, we recognize that true wellness is not just about nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress management, and social engagement. It's also about addressing the fundamental social barriers to health that many underserved communities face – housing, education, food security, employment, and social protection. Access to affordable healthcare is undoubtedly a critical issue, but it's only one piece of the puzzle. Before anyone can fully embrace wellness and access quality care, they must first overcome these formidable social hurdles. We at Oxbridge have an unwavering commitment to being a part of the solution. 🏡 Housing: Stable housing is the foundation of good health. We will be dedicated to initiatives that improve housing security for underserved populations. 📚 Education: Education opens doors to better opportunities.
