An honest Opinion : Indian fashion industry is worth $60 billion, but fashion enthusiasts still struggle to make their mark in the industry. Fashion education is very accepting; but as a matter of fact is pretty expensive too. ⏫ It's very challenging for aspiring fashion students to get into top fashion colleges (Seats are limited and computer based test pose problems for talent in remote areas !) And even after finishing their degree/diploma (at sky high cost especially from a private institution) ; returns aren't as satisfactory if we say the least. Placements & internships firstly are pretty competitive ; secondly, they have been consistently low. 😒 Alternatively, if they want to tread the entrepreneurship journey, they are perplexed on how to find their niche?  the pressure to make a mark, & the frustration of not knowing where to start. 🤔 My friend, I've also been where you are. Seen these challenges myself & saw fashion stylists,bloggers,influencers go through the same. I don't really agree when people say Gen Z is lazy and not ready for work. When I got the chance to speak about Personal Branding at BINUS University with 500+ students as my audience, I learned that Gen Z just has a different point of view. They are enthusiastic about developing their skills even as undergraduate students.🎖️ 💼First Experience I had a 2nd-year student from BINUS as my intern. I was amazed by her work ethic; she was interning at two places simultaneously. I worked with her for almost two years, and she later continued her internship at a bank, which eventually offered her a full-time position after one year. She taught me persistence and dedication, contradicting the lazy stereotype often attributed to Gen Z by the media. 🪄Second Insight I always emphasize that personal branding is more than just posting on social media; it’s about crafting yourself starting from college. Crafting means thriving in building yourself to be who you truly are, gaining new experiences, showcasing your work, improving your skills, and being your best self every time. This way, people can see your personality and what you can offer. That’s the essence of personal branding. 😎Third my takeaway Gen Z is not lazy; they are innovative and hardworking. They just have a different approach that we need to understand and support. Through my experiences, especially speaking engagements and mentoring, I've discovered their enthusiasm, persistence, and unique approach to personal and professional development. Personal branding is a crucial part of this journey, and it's about more than social media presence; it's about continuous self-improvement and showcasing true capabilities. ‪ ‪The professional I interviewed graduated from UAL with a degree in Fashion Management and has worked for many years in a fashion public relations company. They are currently a fashion business direction instructor at an art institution in Beijing.‬li 1. What was your first job after finishing university?‬ After university, I took a six-month break to travel and relax. During my travels, I kept an eye on the fashion industries and stores in each region and also sent out resumes to fashion companies in China. Later, I received some internship offers, which essentially made me a fashion assistant, doing a variety of tasks. 2. How long have you been working in the fashion industry, and how did you initially enter this field? I have been working in the fashion industry for over 10 years since graduating. As I mentioned, my first full-time job after my initial internship was as a PR assistant at a fashion PR company, which gave me the opportunity to work closely with many designers and brands. 3. How long have you worked in each role? I worked as a PR assistant for three years, was promoted to PR manager, and worked in that position for about two years. Later, I became the head of the PR department, where I worked for nearly a year. After building sufficient contacts and resources, my promotions went smoothly, though the pressure also increased. 4. What is your proudest moment in your career? There are many proud moments for me. Currently, helping every student who loves fashion to get into their dream school and find their own path is what makes me proudest. I consider it my contribution to the fashion industry. 5. What skills do you think are most important for newcomers who want to enter this industry? In addition to passion for fashion and creativity, effective communication, adaptability, and an understanding of emerging technologies are crucial. It’s important to find part-time jobs during university, participate in fashion industry events, and build a network. Communication is really very important.
