Government-funded VET students climb In the nine months ending 30 September 2023, 1,074,005 students were enrolled in government-funded VET in Australia, an increase of 1.7% from the same period in 2022, according to NCVER. Of the total, 52.6% were enrolled at TAFE, 4.5% at other government providers, 5.7% at community education providers, 34.4% at private training providers, and 6% at other training providers. The most popular level of education was Certificate III (528,440 or 49%), followed by Certificate IV (222,290 or 20.6%). Most training package enrolments were in Community Services (216,110 or 22%), followed by Construction, Plumbing & Services Integrated Framework (100,730 or 10.2%).

WEDNESDAY WHO’S WHO   The year 1981 for our Year 10 students at CBC was marked with a blend of social events, outdoor activities, and an expanded curriculum that introduced practical trade skills and essential life skills. Highlights were noted as the barbecue with St. Ann's and the Year 10 Walk along the coast to Childers Cove. However perhaps the most significant was the continued broadening of the Year 10 curriculum to engage students in subjects and careers to include practical trade training. Through a collaboration with Warrnambool Technical College, students were given opportunities to gain hands-on experience in various trades, including building construction, motor maintenance, plumbing, welding and typing. Building, facilities, and HVAC techs, it's time to upskill and future-proof your career A new cohort of SLCC's Building Automation Systems 30-week certificate program starts August 20, 2024 and for many it may be deeply discounted thanks to a grant from the State or even free for those that qualify for scholarships from Johnson Controls (JCI). Building Automation Systems increases energy efficiency, saves money, improves comfort and productivity, boosts indoor air quality and safety. Since buildings are responsible for almost 40% of the nation's annual carbon dioxide emissions, doing what we can to increase their efficiency helps all of us breathe easier. And that starts with upskilling folks like your facilities maintenance, building, and HVAC techs. People new to the field… recent high school grads, those recently separated from the military, career changers, and the like… will be eligible for 100% free tuition, thanks to the JCI grant. Techs with experience in Building Automation, HVAC, boiler operations, and the like will be eligible for STIT funding from the State, which reduces tuition by 50%! Every student who receives funding from JCI, is assigned a mentor from Johnson Controls to help smooth their transition into Building Automation Systems. In addition, everyone who gets the JCI funding will be slotted into an internship at JCI or another prominent local employer. As a part of this capstone project everyone else will take part in an externship or a research project at their own company. Funding from Johnson Controls also made possible a new Fire and Alarms course, as well as a half-dozen Desktop Training Units that will allow students to control building systems using programmable controls and instantly see if their code worked.
