We're laying some exciting groundwork with Placemaking pioneers Luisa Bravo from Museo Spazio Pubblico and John Bela, co-creator of the parklet concept and International Park(ing) Day. Together, we're initiating an International Parklet Symposium in Bologna, Italy, slated for the third weekend in September. This event is particularly significant, given the vital role of parklets as outdoor dining spaces and essential infrastructure during the pandemic. The future of parklets is at a crucial juncture. Initially envisioned as public spaces rather than mere extensions for businesses, parklets face new challenges as city regulations revert, often making outdoor spaces less accessible. Our mission is clear: to advocate and ensure that parklets retain their original purpose as public, inclusive spaces.
