United States Marine Corps Quote from Calvin Coolidge, our 30thPresident. Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. What we know makes no difference unless we take massive immediate action Don't Quit 'When things go wrong as they sometimes will, When the road you're trudging seems all up hill, When the funds are low and the debts are high And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit, Rest if you must, but don't you quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a failure turns about When he might have won had he stuck it out; Don't give up though the pace seems slow-- You may succeed with another blow, Success is failure turned inside out-- The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems so far; So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit- It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.' #thinkandgrowrich #bobproctor #warrenbuffet #ted #williamsburgbrooklyn #marines #drillinstructor #sandiego #reconmarine #combatptsdawareness #veteranshelpingveterans #losangeles #leadership #businessman #motivationalquotes Team Never Quit !! Patriot Day: A Time for Reflection and Unity As we gaze upon the tranquil fountains at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, we're reminded that each ripple symbolizes not just a life lost, but an everlasting impact. Today, on Patriot Day, we pause to honor the nearly 3,000 lives tragically cut short on Sept. 11, 2001. In business, as in life, it's crucial to remember that our actions carry weight— much like the water in these fountains. As we commemorate this somber day, let's also celebrate the resilience and unity that define us as a nation. 🇺🇸 Today, consider what you can do to embody these virtues in your workplace. Whether it's promoting a culture of inclusivity or simply taking a moment to reflect on the values that guide you, small acts make a big difference. 💙 Together, we rise above adversity, standing forever united. #PatriotDay #NeverForget #Unity #Resilience #Remember911

Patriot Day, observed on September 11, is profoundly significant in our nation's history. This day serves as a solemn reminder of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, when our country faced one of its darkest moments. It's a day to honor the memory of the lives lost, and the heroism displayed, but it also signifies the enduring spirit of unity and resilience that defines America. On this Patriot Day, we remember the first responders, the courageous individuals who put their lives on the line to save others, and the countless acts of kindness and solidarity that emerged from the ashes of tragedy. It is a day that underscores the American people's strength and unwavering commitment to freedom and justice. Let Patriot Day remind us that we can overcome even the most challenging circumstances when we stand together and support one another. Today, we commemorate the past, acknowledge our shared resilience, and look forward to a future where these principles continue to guide our nation's journey. #PatriotDay #UnitedWeStand #Remember911

How I Spent #Juneteenth. As organizations still wrestle with the concept of #Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging in the workplace, I traveled back to my old duty station at Fort Monroe, Old Point Comfort Virginia, where slavery began in the United States. Here, in 1619, the White Lion, an English Privateer landed. The colonists traded food for “20” and “odd” Africans that the White Lion had captured from a Portuguese slave ship. I actually lived 3 years at the very spot where the first Africans landed while I was stationed at Fort Monroe, during 1991-1994. https://fortmonroe.org/ Fort Monroe is no longer a military installation. Fort Monroe was on the 2005 base realignment and closure list approved by President Bush. It was designated a national monument in 2011 by President Obama. Until the last five years, history books taught that the first enslaved Africans, in what is the United States, landed at Jamestown, one year before Plymouth Rock, thus the significance of where I lived was unknown to me, during the time I was stationed at Fort Monroe. In addition, the beginning of the end of slavery also began at Fort Monroe as those who escaped from slavery were no longer returned and were considered “Contraband.” A General Butler at Fort Monroe refused to return three runaway enslaved men. “Congress registered its approval of Butler’s policy when it passed the First Confiscation Act. This law stated that if slaves are, in fact, property and if this property is owned by any person in active rebellion against lawful Federal authority, then the U.S. military has every right to deny its use to any such person. Any slave that could be wrested from the Confederacy would therefore, in a technical sense, become the property of the United States government.” (National Park Service). I’ve heard it said, “We study history to understand the present and plan for the future.” I made this short video of some of my experiences at Fort Monroe and also it’s connection with slavery. #Juneteenth #1619Project #juneteenth2024 #fortmonroe #OldPointComfort #DEI

They fought for America’s freedom in the Revolutionary War as Black men in the 1700s but couldn’t even attend the university that was in their hometown at the time. In this cemetery on Harvard’s campus (or a block away) are the graves of two Black men who fought in the American Revolution, Cato Freeman and Neptune Frost. Little is known about Frost, but Cato was born Cato Stedman, after his enslaver. He gained his freedom in 1775 and wasted no time enlisting in the Revolutionary War for independence, which lasted from 1775-1783. He would go on to fight for more than 6 years. Afterwards, he moved to Rhode Island, got married and settled on 100 acres of land he was given for being a veteran. He eventually moved back to Cambridge amid financial problems towards the end of his life. Ironically, Rhode Island is also where the 1st Rhode Island Regiment was formed, which was a mostly Black unit. This regiment was established because many White men in Rhode Island didn’t want to fight. Oftentimes, when White men who didn’t want to fight, they’d hire Black men to take their position. Black men were promised freedom on both sides, but over 20,000 fought for the British, whereas 8,000 fought on the Patriot side. And we see how that promise was broken. There is no United States of America, American dream, or so-called democracy without Black people, not just because of our slave labor, but also because we risked our life in that war, because we believed we’d be granted freedom as a collective… but we weren’t. So, like Frederick Douglass would say nearly 70 years after this war concluded, what to the American Slave is the Fourth of July? Or better yet, what to the Black American is the fourth of July? 🚨Check the comments for resources! #blackhistory #harvard #harvarduniversity #racism #slavery #fourthofjuly #ushistory #cambridge #massachusetts #independenceday #4thofjuly #freedom #americanrevolution #dei #antiracism
