Health technology quality and safety is an important issue for health informatics (i.e. digital health) professionals. Health technologies have been used to (1) collect data that can be analyzed to improve the quality and safety of healthcare activities and (2) re-engineer and/or automate error-prone processes. In this article, the importance of health technology safety in a learning health system will be discussed. It is important to integrate quality and safety mechanisms into organizational technology departments that support healthcare activities. I’m happy to share that I’ve completed my Certificate in Digital Health at Harvard Business School Online! The last few months with Harvard’s Certificate of Digital Health have oriented the way I view Healthcare Engineering, around the true foci of the healthcare ecosystem, our patients. There are many modalities by which we can shift the dynamics of healthcare in this direction, and it is paramount we invest heavily here, to achieve better, more equitable health outcomes for our patients. The subject of this certification, digital health is one such modality which supports patients where they are, increasing accessibility to care, though this does come with its own unique challenges, data security, equitability of resources, and clinician workflow management to name a few. I am immensely excited for the growth of this domain and its potential to increase healthcare experiences and outcomes.

Thrilled to share that I have successfully completed a certificate course in #DigitalHealth from Harvard Business School. Taught by Harvard Medical School faculty, this course provided innovative frameworks to think strategically about digital transformation and innovation in healthcare organizations. This program has further deepened my understanding of how digital technologies are transforming healthcare, addressing critical pain points, and enhancing patient outcomes. Through immersive coursework and real-world case studies from organisations like Google Health and Omada Health, we explored the challenges and opportunities of implementing digital solutions in the healthcare landscape from patient, provider, business, and system perspectives. Key highlights of this course included: 💡 Participating in a fictional hackathon to understand #productdevelopment in digital health innovation. 🔍 Exploring the opportunities and difficulties of implementing new technology in healthcare, such as #artificialintelligence, #machinelearning, mobile apps, #digitaltherapuetics, and #wearablesensors. 🛣 Navigating systemic barriers and stakeholders needs in bringing digital health technologies to market. 📊 Analyzing gaps in healthcare that can be closed with technology and data. I am eager to apply this knowledge to drive #healthcareinnovation and improve patient outcomes, as digital health holds the key to enhancing health equity and accessibility. I'm delighted to share my completion of Specialization certification on #digitalhealth from Imperial College London. This comprehensive program delves into the burgeoning field of #DigitalHealth, covering the application and significance of various #DigitalHealthTechnologies such as #MobileApplications, #WearableTech, #HealthInformationManagement, #Telehealth, #Telemedicine, #MachineLearning, #ArtificialIntelligence, and #BigData. It evaluates these innovative solutions in terms of their potential and obstacles in addressing real-world challenges in #PublicHealth, #HealthAccess, and #RealWorldEvidence, with the overarching goal of enhancing the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare services. By completing this specialization, I am now equipped to navigate the evolving landscape of #digitalization in healthcare, #PublicHealth and #HealthcareAI on a global scale.

A lot of health tech can judge its utility with one question - ‘does it immediately help clinicians to spend more time with the patients in the most need?’ Yes? - great! We have a global issue with clinical staffing, so better utilisation of staff is a big thumbs up. No? - then it better do something else really, really well. I don’t mean to be disparaging - there are  lots of “something else.” Occupancy analytics, for instance - making healthcare buildings more efficient. Or improving falls detection, or medication compliance. I’ve seen lots of excellent startups along these lines. But, the big issue affecting everyone are the constraints on clinical time, and with the long education and training required for clinical roles, that issue is only going to become more dominant.

🌐 Just Completed the eHealth Course! 📚 I'm excited to announce that I've successfully completed the online course, "eHealth: More than just an electronic Record," and I wanted to share some key takeaways from this enlightening journey. 📊 Transforming Healthcare with Data: The course delved deep into the types of health data we're currently collecting, and it's incredible how this data will be a cornerstone of healthcare in the future. From biometric data and electronic health records to genomic information and lifestyle data, the potential for improving patient care and outcomes is astounding. 💪 Empowering Health Consumers: New technologies are changing the game by putting health consumers in the driver's seat of their own healthcare. Through mobile health apps, wearable devices, and access to personal health records, individuals can actively participate in managing their well-being, fostering a proactive approach to health. 🤝 Enhancing Healthcare Coordination: One of the most exciting aspects of eHealth is its ability to improve healthcare coordination and efficiency. It's like breaking down silos between healthcare providers and creating a connected ecosystem. However, we also discussed some barriers that might slow this progress, such as data security and interoperability issues. As we move forward, I'm eager to apply these insights to my work and continue exploring how eHealth will revolutionize healthcare. Now more than ever, technology drives innovation in health, and with this, roles in digital health, informatics and MedTech are expected to grow. The hype around technology in healthcare is real, but let's get straight to the point. Technology alone won't bridge healthcare disparities. Here's why. 1️⃣ Technology lacks empathy. ↳ A sophisticated AI can't replace the compassion of a doctor holding a patient's hand. 2️⃣Access isn't universal. ↳ Some people have different access to high-speed internet or the latest gadgets. 3️⃣Training gaps exist. ↳ Many healthcare workers need to be equipped to use advanced tech effectively. Training takes time and resources, which are often scarce. 4️⃣Cultural sensitivity. ↳ Tech can only sometimes grasp the cultural nuances that impact patient care. Human touchpoints are vital. 5️⃣Data privacy concerns. ↳ Patients' data is susceptible. Mismanagement can lead to mistrust. Trust is critical in healthcare.
