After months of contemplation, I finally took a leap of faith in November 2023 and started fresh. The only thing I regret? Not starting sooner! Here are a few lessons I’ve learned along the way on my journey to working in the field of Law: (1) Start sooner: Delaying the start of your internship might feel comfortable, but trust me, the earlier you dive in, the better. Working with lawyers will acclimatize you to the atmosphere, legal terminologies, documents, and the ethos. This experience is invaluable! (2) Hit the Courts and Tribunals: A fantastic piece of advice from Team The Law Engineering before starting my internship - make it a priority to visit courts and tribunals. As an intern or even otherwise. The real-world observation and the courtroom atmosphere are important to understanding the practical aspects. (3) Embrace every challenge: Every task, no matter how small, contributes to your growth. Volunteer to take on tasks, and learn from every experience. (4) Reflect and adapt: Take a step back to reflect on what you've learned. (5) Develop interest in research: There is no substitute for developing the ability to research. PS - So many months of visiting the Bombay High Court, and here's my first photo in front of this board! #CourtVisits #InternshipExperience #LegalJourney #BombayHighCourt #LegalFraternity #JusticeForAll

"Do you have any timeline? Do you have any sort of timelines ? The Parliamentary Inquiry committee asked the Chief of the Secret Service. "I have timelines without any specifics", replied the Chief. "This is not acceptable. How can there be any timelines without any specifics", retorted the Committee ------- Timelines are known as "List of dates" in the Supreme Court. This has to be filed in every case. Now many High Courts and trial courts in India are asking advocates to give them a list of dates. The list of dates should be specific. This should be the first step in preparing any legal case. List of dates without specifics are not helpful. (copyright) Haresh Raichura 25th July, 2024. #lawyers #lawstudents #interns

We are all aware of the present legal scenario where most of the seniors don't treat interns well! And then comes Seniors like Hon'ble Mrs. Justice Pratibha M Singh who called the interns for the month of January in her chamber and asked each one of us about our interests, why we chose this internship, and most importantly what all did we learn. She was taking a review of the internship from others, and the next turn was mine. She asked: Yes, you tell me what all did you learn? I replied: Ma'am despite all the legal knowledge I learnt how important it is to be spontaneous & attentive in court. Ma'am I would also like to add, the pinch of humour you add while ongoing proceedings is just commendable. She replied (smilingly): "Aree me toh chahti hu proceedings light rhe, ese hi logg ladte rehte hai" After this, she greeted us, and we were about to leave. But, there was a thought in my mind that shall I or shall I not ask her for a picture, but then I let my intrusive thoughts win 😂 and politely asked her for a group picture, to which she replied: Why only he asked, were y'all afraid? To which I replied: Mam I was talking about this spontaneity only! She was really comfortable to talk to, and I didn't even feel like I was talking to a Justice of Delhi High Court. She made sure everyone was comfortable and not nervous infront of her. I guess that's what we call a true leader. #judicialinternship #justice #delhihighcourt #team #leadership #lawstudents #gratitude #serendipity

When during the course of hearing the judge picked up one point and make up his mind that case has to be dismissed then it is Very difficult situation and requires to overcome by applying our own skills which one can get through experience only. Now the generation of judges is not noble as it was. The ego that I am govt officer and boss of the world is every where and judges are not exceptions. One don’t know which outer factor would prejudice to our case rather than legal submissions. The courts are now place of speculation rather than temple of justice. So argue in simple way. Argue is not proper word. Make submissions in prescribed manner. It is better to adjourned the matter if he has made up mind. Here one must use tactics. Don’t show that u are running away but go on for two three 4-5 minutes then submit that “ this is point on which I am not prepared or like that and then request. I come across with many cases where judge is against us and then case get adjourned and adjourned due to priorities of other cases and by that time judges are changed, some difficulties are arises to other side, some case laws are declared affecting the cases, some facts documents came to know. Not to run away is golden rule but try to get rid of prejudiced judges, may necessity of time. I remember one case. One manager of the company was respondent in workmen compensation case.directors of the company not contested the case. Compensation was awarded. In recovery proceedings the manager was impleaded by name. Recovery was ordered and it was directed to attach personal property of manager. Revenue authorities issued order of attachment. I have filed writ petition against order of attachment knowing that I have require to challenge the award by filing appeal and for which I have to deposit half of the amount of compensation. As expected judge ( lady ) said writ petition is not maintainable. I sought time to think over. The assignment changed. New judge smelled the rat. He issued notices to directors. Recovery was stayed. When directors tried to avoid appearing before court warrant was issued. The directors deposited amount of compensation on very next day and attachment order issued against manager set aside. I had learned many things from the case. If judge is going superficially ( usually it happens due to work load ) and with prejudice try for adjournment.
How to argue when bench is negative and when it is not likely to grant desired relief ? - A brief suggestion. #lawyers #lawstudents #interns https://lnkd.in/efnYWwJ
