Addressing masculinities and engaging men and boys in the prevention of men's violence against women
A reminder that Changing the picture outlines a range of actions that non-Indigenous people can take to challenge the condoning of violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, challenge and prevent all forms of racism, indifference, ignorance and disrespect towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and cultures, and address racialised power inequalities and amend discriminatory policies and practices - all factors which lead to the unacceptably high rates of violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women: https://lnkd.in/dX4tMzHN

Quote "For anything to change we first need to be honest about why Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women experience violence at the rates we do. Ongoing impacts of colonisation and deeply embedded racism, discrimination and bias in our society, systems and structures create a breeding ground where violence against our women is more likely to occur and be accepted." As America pauses today to celebrate Juneteenth a day that marks the landing of Federal Troops at Galveston within the great state of Texas to take control and ensure all enslaved people be rightfully freed I would like us to equally remember that we continue to have a great deal of work remaining even 161 years later. There are many efforts and champions of DEI efforts within government, academia, and business and I applaud their work. However, I stand firm in my assertion that as a society we have not achieved the goal of ensuring all enslaved people be rightly freed. These efforts must be continued, they must be discussed, and absolutely actioned. We pushed the disgusting act of human slavery from accepted and open observance to the shadows. Today in our society and globally the human slave trade remains a fully functioning system, with an estimated 46-50 million enslaved people in 2024, often targeting the most vulnerable of DEI populations. Sometimes these activities take place right in front of us with the support of both the witting and unwitting. As a society we must better educate each other on the signs of human trafficking which feeds the slavery process. We must understand when we might interact with events traffickers target for profit. We must be willing to report it when suspected. And we must all continue the assignment that our great leader gave to us 161 years ago to ensure all enslaved people be rightfully freed.

Dr. Audra Simpson, a brilliant Mohawk scholar, tackles critical issues of Indigenous sovereignty and settler colonialism in her work. Her book "Mohawk Interruptus" explores the complexities of land rights and resistance movements. By following her work and engaging with Indigenous voices, we can all become better allies in the fight for justice. Check out Dr. Simpson's book "Mohawk Interruptus" and share your learnings or recommendations for further reading in the comments! #IndigenousRights #SettlerColonialism #LandBack

Independence Day is by far my favorite holiday. I love the summer, I love fireworks, and I love America. In case you need a reminder of what the holiday is all about and the true sacrifice made by our Founders to create the United States of America, take 10 minutes to watch this video on the Declaration of Independence from the legendary Paul Harvey. https://lnkd.in/gUaNcSRx
