How do you #liveyourpromise? My colleague, friend, and truly #remarkable speaker Jason Hewlett, CSP, CPAE shares a powerful message with his clients about his idea of "The Promise". The promise isn't just a positioning or promise statement. It's not a slogan. It is the principle(s) you live (and die) by. Yesterday I took my promise to the next level. #livetoday has been my mantra since I was put on the transplant list and given a year to live in 2001. For me it means not “live every day like it is your last”, but rather to appreciate and take advantage of each and every day for the opportunity it is. For years I’ve worn a rubber bracelet that says “Live Today” as a constant reminder. I’ve often said that someday when I’m committed, I’ll get it tattooed on my arm, but I kept putting it off. Then a few weeks ago, I got a DM from someone who changed that. She had heard me speak years ago and said that my idea of “live today” had such profound impact on her that she had the words tattooed on her arm! After seeing someone who only heard my message commit to it at that level, I knew I had to follow through and do that same. Each of our feminine monthly phases has its superpowers and drawbacks. The downside of the dynamic phase (which follows after menstruation) is that we become so fast that others, including our kids or even dogs, may seem too slow, leading to impatience. So, if your morning with your kids or in traffic is all about "speed up, hurry, hurry," be aware that you're likely in your dynamic phase. Science is only just beginning to understand that human beings are profoundly & utterly social creatures. Look at babies. Their eyes first begin to focus 11.5 inches away. That's the average distance from the crock of your arm, where we hold them, to your face. Their eyes zero in on faces, first and foremost. They're active in our relationship with them. What would you prefer to experience - absolute love or total creativity? Well, the answer is hinted at in this story: In 1889, the surgeon Dr William Stewart Halsted was desperate to retain his scrub nurse Caroline.nurse Caroline. The antiseptics he used in his operations were giving her painful skin rashes, and she wanted to quit. So he made plaster casts of her hands and sent them to a rubber factory to produce protective gloves. These gloves saved Caroline’s hands — and as a side benefit, they also reduced post-surgical infection by more than 800%, transforming medicine forever. Only months after this historical moment, Halsted lost Caroline as his nurse — and gained her as his wife. Did love inspire his innovation? Or did his innovation inspire their trip to the altar? See, the truth is that love and creativity are sources of one another and if you manage it right they can spiral each other up into infinity. Neither one is better - they are both GREAT!!
