Here is the latest example of a business proposal Executive Summary for a Security Awareness program. Notice how this summary focuses on the why. After working with numerous Executive Summaries from students, I've noticed the most common mistake is neglecting the WHY and focusing too much on the WHAT / HOW. An effective way to address that is break your Executive Summary down into Problem : Solution : Value. The most important part is your Problem statement. If you create a strong enough sense of urgency, the Solution : Value sell themselves. Example from SANS LDR433 Human Risk course - sans.org/ldr433 What tips / lessons learned do you have about effective Executive Summaries?
