We have been wowed by the extraordinary quality of the videos produced by the new OpenAI Sora system. I should start by saying that it is an astounding piece of work. I gave the following lecture to both my final year undergraduates and my MSc Big Data Analytics students to unravel its nature and to illustrate ow to go about finding the small clues that tell us how Sora actually works. It works best in a PC browser. It also caught their attention because it is about something only four days old and therefore at the leading edge of knowledge. The give-aways about how it works and why it will be difficult to simulate real world situations faithfully are all detailed by OpenAI themselves in the technical report, that I take the students through. Essentially, we have a system in Sora which builds hallucinations upon hallucinations and which cannot be solved, as you will see in this lecture. I finally show a clip from Lord of the Rings CGI, where every aspect is under the precise control of the human engineers and the highly accurate gaming and physics and rendering engines. What Is Real Education - Part 2 = This post is extension of my previous post: What is Education : A Personal Experience Sharing lnkd.in/gWr67M4J That post ended like this: There is no Education, no Learning, no Retention for 99.99% of the mass. Otherwise the following book would not have been written The Shallows: How the Internet Is Changing the Way We Think, Read and Remember, is a 2010 book by the American journalist Nicholas G. Carr. You be the judge ... In that post, I promised Shekhar Veera that I will provide an example of Socratic Learning - the Real Education pathway (in my humble opinion). = First of all, why this tendency to call something Real? Oh that is simple to explain. We live in the age of all pervasive Fakism. It was detected by Ludwig Andreas von Feuerbach, German anthropologist and philosopher, best known for his book The Essence of Christianity, which provided a critique of Christianity that strongly influenced generations of later thinkers. He quoted: But certainly for the present age, which prefers the sign to the thing signified, the copy to the original, representation to reality, the appearance to the essence... illusion only is sacred, truth profane. Understand me now? In almost every communication nowadays you need to identify Fake or Real Subject. The subject of this post is "Real" Education Experience (via Socratic Method). = Imagine that you are an over subscribed Mathematics tutor. One more student comes to your doorstep: Student >> Madam / Sir : My name is Soumen Sarkar, I desperately want to become your student. You >> Convince me why you want to learn Mathematics? Student >> I want to be Happy. You >> Flabbergasted and overtaken by surge of emotions, you desperately try one more elimination test. Tell me why Multiplication is NOT repeated Addition? 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 15 Why MUST we need 3 * 5 = 15? Why MUST we have Multiplication as fundamental as Addition?? The Student Soumen is frozen, slowly walks away and does not come back to you. You are relieved but also equally worried that you might have lost a promising student. Your fear indeed comes true when years later you learn that Soumen has won Fields Medal on the subject area of Arithmetic Geometry. The Fields Medal is a prize awarded to two, three, or four mathematicians under 40 years of age at the International Congress of the International Mathematical Union (IMU), a meeting that takes place every four years. The name of the award honours the Canadian mathematician John Charles Fields. The Fields Medal is regarded as one of the highest honors. In utter astonishment you read that Soumen mentioned your Addition Multiplication question as the sole inspiration to become a Professional Mathematician. You indeed took Soumen as a student - just not the way you thought ... PS: The referred video is a funny one depicting sad state of education in India (and perhaps worldwide).

I am currently carrying out an experiment as part of my BSc IT (Hons) Artificial Intelligence thesis at the University of Malta, with the aim of addressing websites containing haphazardly-placed ads and clickbait content which detracts from the user experience. I am being supervised by Dr. Dylan Seychell and Prof. Ing. Carl James Debono. We’re doing this by creating a dataset to examine the ability of AI saliency models 🧠👁️ to assess the fairness of attention distribution across content on Maltese news websites.
