Clemency is a powerful tool that is part of the fabric of our nation, writes Executive Director Amol Sinha in his latest op-ed. Governors can leverage it to address grave injustices in our legal system, slash our incarcerated population, reunite families and fundamentally transform communities.

"Creating a safer Louisiana can never be achieved through legislation that dehumanizes children, eliminates hope, and supports state-sanctioned violence and torture." With the regular legislative session currently underway, here's an important reminder from our ED, Kristen Rome of what our children realistically need from state policymakers compared to "tough-on-crime" policies that further cement #Louisiana as the incarceration capital of the world. https://t.co/QoNwlv3pco

NEBRASKA JUSTICE SUMMIT OBJECTIVES: Information! Action! Solutions! The Nebraska Summit on Justice & Disparities serves as a vehicle to connect stakeholders with resources to work together for significant reduction in the startling rates of minority contact in the criminal justice system in Nebraska. 2021 data from the Sentencing Project shows that Nebraska incarcerates Black Citizens at a rate of 9 times that of the White incarceration rate, placing Nebraska among the top 10 states in the country for this disproportionality. Other minority groups including the Native and Latinx communities are also critically overrepresented and the juvenile justice system is also displays alarming disparities. https://lnkd.in/gqHmt-5V #justice #disparities

Hey y’all! If you’re local to SF, Come join GLIDEsf and help phone bank for #Prop6 on the November #ballot ! Per GLIDE’s own Center for Social Justice: “GLIDE is so excited to support California Proposition 6, the ballot measure to End Slavery in California. Proposition 6 would close a loophole in the current California Constitution, which prohibits slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime. Prisons and private companies make millions in profit by forcing incarcerated people to work dangerous jobs even if they’d rather be in rehabilitation programs like victim impact, anger management, or drug treatment. Proposition 6 prioritizes rehabilitation over exploitation and increase opportunities for incarcerated people to work on themselves, which leads to safer communities for us all.” #Volunteer #GOTV #GetOutTheVote #California #CA #SanFrancisco #SF #Policy #MassIncarceration
