Xurya Daya Indonesia, a renewable energy company offering rooftop solar rental without initial cost in Indonesia, has raised a US$55 million funding round led by the Norwegian Climate Investment Fund managed by Norfund, with participation from Swedfund International, Clime Capital as the manager of SEACEF II, British International Investment, and AC Ventures. Xurya has received more than US$90 million in investment to date. Xurya is the first renewable energy company in Indonesia to receive direct funding from the Norwegian Climate Investment Fund and Swedfund, Sweden’s Development Finance Institution (DFI). The deal is also the first equity investment in Indonesia by BII, the United Kingdom’s DFI and impact investor, under its current 2022-2026 investment strategy. Clime Capital and AC Ventures are returning investors in Xurya. The regional prospects for solar energy are compelling. Southeast Asia has a technical potential of 17 terawatts—more than 20 times the capacity needed to meet the net-zero emissions target of 2050. Vietnam’s VINFAST officially entered Indonesia earlier this year, setting up a new dealership in the Jakarta suburb of Depok and announcing it will soon invest US$1.2 billion to build a local assembly plant with a capacity of 60,000 electric cars per year. Backed by AC Ventures, local auto service and repair startup Otoklix inked a deal with VINFAST to serve as the brand’s authorized service provider for customers nationwide.
