Happy #InternationalWomensDay! 🌸 Today, as we celebrate the achievements and contributions of #women worldwide, it’s also a poignant moment to reflect on the challenges they face in the workplace. This year’s theme, #inspireinclusion, resonates deeply with the findings of my dissertation research, which focused on #StressManagement and its impact on the #WorkLifeBalance #WLB for women in the Financial Sector. In my study, I delved into the experiences of women working in the financial sector in England, uncovering a concerning reality: many face significant work-related stressors, including high job expectations, long work hours, and a competitive environment. These stressors not only hindered their ability to maintain a healthy work-life balance but also affected their physical and mental well-being, interpersonal relationships, and overall quality of life. However, my findings showed that amidst these challenges, there was a glimmer of hope. Women demonstrated resilience by employing various personal stress-reduction strategies, such as time management, setting boundaries, seeking social support and prioritising personal time. Yet, for these strategies to be truly effective, organisational support is crucial. Research suggests that organisations committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment are more likely to enhance work-life balance for their employees. Participants in my study emphasised the importance of companies implementing stress management strategies and #WLB policies. For many, the presence of such initiatives influenced their decisions regarding job satisfaction and organisational loyalty. Therefore, on this #InternationalWomensDay, let us heed to the call to action embedded within the #inspireinclusion theme. As we celebrate women’s achievements, let us also commit to creating workplaces that prioritise the well-being and inclusion of all employees, regardless of gender.
