I’ve watched as multiple beer brands venture into coffee with little understanding of the fundamental differences between the products, cash flows, distribution networks, and fizzle out within a couple years. It can be done well, of course, but it really helps to have industry experience and talent on your team to make it happen. I think an excellent example of the coalescence of beer and coffee is Dayglow and Niteglow Beer Company. You can see that both aspects of the business are helmed by people with very strong experience in both sectors but share common sourcing/production ethos and branding commonalities. The power of people can’t be understated.

Introducing The Maker’s Alliance: We are a like-minded collective of 5 newer drink brands that champion raw ingredients, handmade techniques and discerning flavours (but NO flavourings or preservatives). Our aim is to shine a spotlight on brands with founders dedicated to crafting products entirely from scratch, shunning all flavour houses and shortcuts in favour of making products themselves, in house. 'Craft' is thrown around so much as a marketing term in our categories, we all feel it has lost its meaning. We want to reclaim it by lifting the curtain, throwing open the doors to share our Maker stories, our processes and raw ingredients. We want to show people what goes into creating our award winning brands and lead a new wave of drinks that puts Makers at the heart of these emerging drinks categories.
