When I took my older daughter to work yesterday, here are a few things I explained to her about the legal profession: 1. You can help a lot of people by reading, writing and speaking. 2. You won’t always win a case, but all that matters is you try your best for your client (the person or company you are helping) and you learn to live with the outcome. I also explained to her that a “settlement” is where no one wins or loses and she said, “so like a tie?” I said, “yea sort of.” 3. Yes we work a lot, but we can find ways to be with our family. I reminded her that her daddy works as hard as he does FOR his family. Did you enjoy take your child to work day? What did you teach your child about your profession? #employmentlaw #takeyourchildtowork #TheWorkplaceLawfirm

I totally missed take your child to work day, but I WFH and I talk to my child (15) about my work a lot, so he's definitely exposed and has a good idea of what I do, and the various skillsets involved. I was actually just thinking this morning about how many entrepreneurs are in our family (on my mom's side, but also my dad's side as well) and why that is. I think a lot of it may have to do with the other family members seeing what's involved day and and day out - the successes, but also the struggles, the worries, the failures, the lessons learned - all of it. And just being in that environment I think makes us think you know what? I can do that too! And we're more likely to succeed because we see all sides of what's involved - not just the "freedom" (ha!).

My kids are grown and I don't recall take your child to work when they were younger, but anyway, here is my response to your question. What I have learned is our children take everything we do and say in--like a sponge, the good, bad and the ugly. So while there are certain personal traits that I wish I had not demonstrated, it is clear from watching my daughters and their work and lives that they got the message loud and clear, you can do anything you want to, you may have to work for it very hard, and it all depends on you making sure that happens.
