As an immigrant in the mid 90's, having an "easy time" to get a work visa, and now a US citizen, I am pretty ashamed at how difficult it has become for highly qualified immigrants to get their shot in the US. My grandfather was a refugee from the aftermath of the first world war. My in-laws refugees from the Chinese civil war. Immigration is our national origin story.

Came to America when I was 9 as a Vietnamese refugee. The opportunities our family had growing up do not exist anywhere else. As a citizen, I am proud and grateful to be an American.

Some of the most brilliant and kindest people I have met and became friends with recently were born in other countries, and I feel incredibly blessed that they have decided to live in the US.
