On Saturday, our founder, Aditya Ghosh shared his insights on India’s sustainable mobility landscape as a guest speaker at Oxford India Forum’s annual conference. The historic university hosted a vibrant line-up of some of India’s leading minds in business, academia, policy and finance to critically examine this year’s theme - Sustainable Futures: Climate, Technology, and Innovation. The Forum’s daylong event, held at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, analysed pressing global challenges from an Indian perspective while addressing opportunities for growth and progress. As an active stakeholder in India’s sustainable mobility movement, Aditya spoke about shaping Akasa Air’s progressive environmental agenda as well as guiding India’s first flying e-taxi service and a pioneering electric bus platform. The panel discussion, titled “Forging a Sustainable Future: Decarbonising the Aviation Industry” moderated by Dr Radhika Khosla, a Professor at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment - University of Oxford and Research Director of The Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development helped unpack questions on innovation, environmental responsibilities and technological advancements in the mobility space in India and across the world. As co-founder of Akasa Air, Aditya spoke extensively on the carrier’s identity as India’s greenest airline and its commitment towards being the most environmentally progressive airline in the country. From uniforms and shoes of the cabin crew made of completely recycled waste to deploying the youngest and most fuel-efficient fleet of aircraft, Aditya explained how Akasa remains focused on growth while prioritising sustainability as a core value. Aditya also shared his experience of working closely with two electric mobility companies as a Board Member - The ePlane Company and GreenCell Mobility . GreenCell Mobility is transforming India’s bus transportation with its platform for Electric Mobility-as-a-Service (eMaaS). Aditya shared how GreenCell has already ferried 78 million passengers in 2023-24 with its fleet of 1,100 non-polluting electric buses, 190 charging stations and a connected ecosystem of products — saving over 4,82,000 litres of diesel. The ePlane Company, on the other hand, has been incubated out of the Indian Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and was founded with an ambitious vision to make electric aircraft a reality. Categorised as an Urban Air Mobility (UAM) startup, the company aims to alleviate on-road traffic congestion in cities worldwide by offering safe, sustainable and affordable flying experiences. #oxfordschool #sustainability #mobility #adityaghosh
