The average price of a dozen eggs in Pakistan has reached an unprecedented high, exceeding Rs. 420, according to recent data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). Cities such as Islamabad, Peshawar, and Faisalabad are witnessing this surge, with eggs priced at Rs. 420 per dozen. Sialkot is closely behind at Rs. 410, while Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Larkana, Multan, Quetta, and Bannu are not exempt, with prices hitting Rs. 400 per dozen. Khuzdar and Sukkur experience a relatively lower rate of Rs. 390, while Karachi, Bahawalpur, and Hyderabad report Rs. 380 per dozen, reflecting widespread increases in egg prices nationwide.

Commissioner Karachi’s consultation meeting with representatives of dairy farmers, wholesalers and retailers to increase milk prices continued for several hours and finally it was decided to increase the price of milk by 20 rupees per liter. It was decided in the meeting that milk will be sold at retail level at Rs 220 per litre, farm rate at Rs 195, wholesale price at Rs 205 and retail price at Rs 220 and the notification of increase in milk price is likely to be issued today. Earlier, the dairy farmers had demanded to fix farm rate at Rs 250 and retail price at Rs 297 per litre. Commissioner Karachi has submitted written affidavits from dairy farmers wholesalers and retailers that the official price will be strictly implemented and the official price will be prominently displayed at the shops. The affidavit states that wholesalers will issue invoices to retailers based on sales price and quantity and that quality and quantity will be adhered to. It has been promised to Commissioner Karachi that dairy farmers wholesalers and retailers will not demand increase in milk price till 31 December 2024 and will cooperate with the administration to implement the official price of milk. #Milk #expensive #Karachi #liter #increase

ISLAMABAD: The state-run Utility Stores Corporation (USC) on Monday reduced the prices of ghee by Rs18 per kilogramme (kg) across Pakistan. In a statement, the spokesperson said the utility stores announced a reduction of Rs18 per kg in the price of subsidised ghee for registered families under the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP). The ghee for BISP beneficiaries will now be available at Rs375 per kilogram, down from Rs393 per kg. Meanwhile, general consumers will also benefit from a price reduction, with ghee now available at Rs445 per kilogram, down from Rs463. Before this reduction, there was a negligible difference between the prices of these items at USC outlets and in the open market, leading to public criticism of the government and the corporation’s management. According to documents, the USC outlets were charging Rs860 more than the going rate for a 20-kg bag of wheat flour. A 20-kg wheat flour bag is being sold at Rs2840 at outlets while the same bag can be bought from the markets at Rs1980. Sella rice was available for Rs314 per kg in the market but it costs Rs345 per kg at utility stores. The utility stores were charging Rs31 more per kg.
