If you’re unfamiliar with the story, the big reveal is that the U.S. Team was comprised only of college and amateur hockey players—who were competing against professional teams. Teamwork stories detail the late nights, the contrasting talents, and the breakthrough moments when a group of people challenged a status quo, realized the missing piece of the puzzle, and changed one small aspect that changed everything. Teamwork I am a big fan of soccer, the “beautiful game”. This love for the game was inspired by my children as they learned the game, and solidified with my son Aaron and his team developing into a strong and successful high school team. Success in soccer comes through teamwork. It comes through understanding your role, the role of others, and knowing where each teammate is and will be. Even the best soccer player would find it impossible to take on eleven other players by themselves, while also having responsibility to stop the other team from scoring. Another great aspect of teamwork that applies to almost any work situation - each teammate has a view, a skill, an understanding that, when coupled with the rest of the team, improves the whole to a level greater than the pieces. An easy example of soccer strategy… often when trying to score, the best strategy is to retreat and retry. You will often see a team push the ball down the field and, when encountering something blocking their progress, they will begin to pull back. By leveraging their midfield players, or even their goalie, they can quickly reset the strategy and then push forward again. Take inventory of everyone on your team. Yourself included. Leverage their strengths and lead them. When progress is stymied, pull back. Reset. The push forward again. #teamwork #reset #strategy
