This conversation with a friend pointed out a big misconception I see in the personal development space:
I was chatting with a friend who is going through a hard time, and she said,
“It just helps to know that you’ve been there and you aren’t in the deep end anymore.”
And I get what she meant -
💕 if you are really going through it, it's helpful to know that there are people who have also been in a dark place, who now find themselves in a lighter place.
And boy, there was a point where I DID feel like I was in the deep end.
😫 I spent a lot of time feeling like my internal world was not reflective of my external world—
➡ feeling low confidence at work (even when I was doing a great job),
➡ questioning if my friends really liked me (even though they told me otherwise),
➡ trying to solve a lot of problems that weren’t really my problems to solve (even when I knew it was draining my energy).
Flash forward to today…
🙂 I’ve spent time honing my self-awareness so that if I DO feel overwhelmed,
I don’t feel controlled by it.
But…that doesn’t mean the overwhelm is totally gone!
❗ “Doing the work” isn’t about never having to experience an uncomfortable emotion or never having to feel stress again.
It’s about learning to trust that when you get into a tough situation,
🌟 you can feel what you need to feel,
🌟 take the action that’s right for you,
🌟 and remain connected to the strong, curious, compassionate part of you that knows you’re going to be okay.
So if you’re struggling to figure out why overwhelm is such a big part of your daily experience,
know that you’re not the only person figuring it out!
(Even the most famous figures in the personal development space have to deal with off days.)
👀 And if you feel like you want to learn some tools to be able to access the strong, curious, compassionate part of you, even when overwhelm is hitting,
💛 I’m going to be hosting a free training in 2 of weeks that is FULL of information on exactly that topic.
Registration opens on Monday, but reach out to me if you want to secure an early spot!
