Data-driven cross-functional healthcare leader delivering solutions for patients, providers, and payers.

Shout out to Out-Of-Pocket / Nikhil Krishnan for hosting a fantastic and engaging short course on value-based contracting this past week, and a big thank you to the presenters Reza Alavi, Frank Cheung, Ernie Valente, Allison Foster, and Kevin Kappel for their insightful sessions and personal reflections on designing and implementing #VBC contracts in practice. Some key take-aways to increase likelihood of success: ✅ Ensure all stakeholders (payer, provider, vendors, and patients) stand to benefit from your program. Of course $avings and care quality are top of mind, but don't forget about healthcare equity or the patient and provider experience! ✅ "Contracts are for more than payment terms" - they should also ensure alignment on the specifics around SLAs, performance measurement and calculations/adjustments, and reconciliation and dispute resolution processes. ✅ Beware of and proactively address common threats to accurate evaluation of VBC program impact, such as inadequate risk adjustment, potential for high-cost outliers, and adverse selection, among others. I highly recommend fellow life-long learners and problem-solvers passionate about implementing effective and sustainable healthcare solutions check out the other courses Out-Of-Pocket has scheduled!
