We are PROUD to announce that our journalist at The Oregonian / OregonLive.com recently won eight (count 'em, eight!) awards from the National Headliner Awards competition, including sweeping the category for news videos up to three minutes. The first place AND third place winner of the video category went to Samantha Swindler. The first place video was about the process of harvesting cranberries in a small southern Oregon coastal town (linked below) and the third place video was an peek inside the Cowboy Dinner Tree restaurant. When I stumbled across the Advance Local News Fellowship almost two years ago now, the idea of getting accepted into a program where I could earn my master's degree and begin my first professional journey in news, straight out of undergrad, seemed like a dream. I’m so excited to say that dream came true last week when I walked across the stage at S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and was celebrated for earning my master's degree in journalism innovation! And, I didn’t do it alone! Between my family, friends, classmates, professors, mentors and colleagues at NJ Advance Media and Advance Local — I truly couldn’t have done it without the support.

Pretty surreal.     Major congratulations to our clients at Lookout Local for their Pulitzer Prize win in the Breaking News category.    From their write up:   “We reported quickly and carefully, vetting often scattered and confusing facts, making sure we got out the accurate news and information essential to individual and community decision-making. We documented in words, images and videos what people from the reaches of San Lorenzo Valley to Pajaro to Capitola were experiencing. We called on President Joe Biden to visit beleaguered South County as well as jaw-dropping coastal damage. We did what we always do, but at warp speed and still made sure that our deep reporting work got its usual double edits by our experienced, diligent editors.    We also used every digital means at our disposal to keep getting news and information out. Digital distribution is instantaneous and works for most of you. But our text messaging service often got through to phones, when the internet got interrupted.
