Program Manager in Advanced Materials for Energy and Environmental Sustainability at the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA)
In the last two days we did the kick-off meeting of the #euEIC Mid- to long-term and systems integrated #energystorage Pathfinder challenge #portfolio. The 32 representatives of the 9 projects belonging to the technological categories of the Electrochemical, Thermal, Chemical looping and storage of energy carriers and Thermomechanical energy storage discussed with experts coming from @JRC, CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, Future Cleantech Architects and scientific organizations how to accelerate their technology innovation journey through sharing scientific and innovation expertise as well as facilities and equipment. Take home messages are: 1) collaboration is needed but to implement it you clearly need to demonstrate that it is a win-win approach; 2) tech to market plans needs to be strategically designed since day one of the deep tech innovation journey; 3) to achieve the ambitious goal of implementing the energy transition we need to design the proper policies and to develop technologies that are environmentally and economically sustainable.

Starting a new venture? Don't just leap; sometimes the biggest breakthroughs come from small, sensible steps. As we examine the energy industry on a recent episode of Wicked Energy with JG, it's clear: innovation doesn't always mean reinvention. As Josh Sigler, VP of Geology at XCL Resources, shared in his episode, look at Utah's #UintaBasin; they're not the biggest player, but they're making giant strides by applying practical, environmentally conscious technology. A mix of old-school geology with next-gen tech is leading to smarter oil extraction and a reduced environmental footprint. This is a masterclass in not just shattering the mold but also reshaping it piece by piece for real, lasting change. It's not about being the loudest in the room but rather the smartest. Continue to innovate, yes, but let each step be guided by practicality and purpose! #energy #sustainability #innovation

Great article for anyone trying to understand the range of methane detection technologies!
Good article summarizing the methane emissions value chain and tech stack. Great to see many friends and partners listed in the article as well. Reducing methane emissions needs a better together story. Cannot do it alone. At Energy Tech Summit in Bilbao this week, our panel discussed the critical state of rare earth supply chains. I'm anticipating this topic will only get louder in coming months/years. Some takeaways: 1. The supply crunch is enormous - projections indicate the 2035 supply deficit will equal the entire market size today! ($45B, 200 kT). 2. It’s a big problem: these materials are essential components in EVs, wind turbines, medical equipment, electronics, and defense systems, and 90%+ of the global supply is controlled by one country: China. 3. Expanding rare earth supply chains is not enough. We need to innovate our way out of this mess by developing alternative materials / feedstocks. University of Minnesota spinout Niron Magnetics, Inc. is an Anzu Partners portfolio company making strong permanent magnets without ANY rare earths – and with giant reductions in capex and emissions.
This week, Anzu Partners Principal Henk Both participated in a panel at Energy Tech Summit in Bilbao on Critical Resources: The Geopolitical Significance of Rare Earth Metals. Henk had the opportunity to discuss the geopolitical risks of today's rare earths supply chain and share the potential impact of our portfolio company Niron Magnetics, Inc.'s rare earth-free Clean Earth Magnet technology. #ETS2024 #cleantech #energytech #cleanenergy #rareearths

Jake Badger and Wiebke Langreder led us through another session on #blockage and #wakes at WindEurope's #WindTech24 We heard from Joseph Anthony Vitulli, M.Sc who conducted a comparative analysis of industry-accepted engineering wake models and weather-based simulations for offshore wind farms, revealing larger deviations in internal wake impacts under tight spacing restrictions and emphasizing the need for improved understanding of wake effects, particularly for high-density developments and large turbines. Christopher Rodaway gave an update on the #GloBE project and presented the full and final processed measured wind/SCADA dataset. The presentation included model comparisons, and highlighted areas of consensus vs areas where uncertainty and disagreement remain, flagging the areas for further research. Oscar Manuel Garcia Santiago explained how to improve the modeling of wind farm wakes using new parameters in the WRF mesoscale model in handling Turbulence Kinetic Energy (TKE), thereby enhancing the assessment of intra-farm and inter-farm wake losses and aiding international coordination in offshore resource use. And Tom Levick demonstrated that the upgraded “multi-stability CFD.ML” model, which considers atmospheric boundary inputs, can effectively predict wake and blockage loss factors for large wind farms, thereby providing more accurate estimates and reducing uncertainties in financial costs and business cases for specific projects. https://lnkd.in/e-bAAnzR EMD International A/S Ramboll RWE DTU - Technical University of Denmark DNV
