A close collaboration between academia and industry is crucial to addressing the climate crisis. Transferring technology from academia to industry, supported by incubators, accelerators, and VCs, can contribute to climate resilience. On June 24th, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and EnergyCom - the Energy Innovation Community in Israel, will hold a conference focusing on the relationship between academia and industry, under the theme "From Nano Materials to Macro Applications." I'm honored to join a panel alongside other leading investors in the energy sector: Gideon Friedmann from NetZero Tech Ventures Karina Rubinstein from InNegev and Shani Zanescu. Our panel discussion, moderated by Glenn Yago, will focus on investing in renewable energy technologies and how we can work together to create a sustainable energy future. Please join us for an engaging discussion. #ClimateCrisis #AcademiaIndustry #VentureCapital #ClimateResilience #HebrewUniversity #Energycom

The TAKE-OFF project was featured in the last edition of the European Energy Innovation in an article titled: TAKE-OFF and the techno-economic and environmental assessment of jet fuel production from CO₂ and H₂. Our project’s pathways for producing sustainable aviation fuel (#SAF) from CO₂ and H₂ are currently at a low technology readiness level (TRL 3-4) and are expected to reach TRL 5 by the end of the project. To include sustainability aspects in the early stages of design and production, all technology lines are assessed in terms of sustainability using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Techno-economic Analysis (TEA). Multiple scenarios regarding carbon capture, hydrogen production technology, energy sources, etc. are developed and system models for each scenario are created and simulated using experimental data. The article was drafted by Benyamin Khoshnevisan and Hadis Marami from our project partner Syddansk Universitet - University of Southern Denmark. 📣 The Horizon Europe CAPTUS Project is glad to invite you to join its 1st Dissemination Workshop! ♻ Do you want to know more about the most promising carbon capture and utilization (#CCU) technologies? What are the main challenges faced by the industries when integrating CCU technologies into their processes? Do you want to hear how EU-funded initiatives contribute to enhance the development and deployment of CCU technologies? With European actors active in the energy sector and carbon capture as its main target audience, #CAPTUS will host this online event, organised by partner Energy Efficiency in Industrial Processes - EEIP, on June 18, 2024, from 10.00-11.30 CET, featuring a keynote speech from Konstantina Plakaki (Hellenic Ministry of Environment and Energy). Together with the CAPTUS project, two other EU-funded projects (FUELGAE Project & SINNOGENES), dealing with #CO2 capture and innovative energy storage solutions, will also be presented to the audience. The event will be concluded with a panel discussion of relevant stakeholders in the fields of CO2 capture and utilization. 📅 18 June 2024 ⌚ 10.00 – 11.30 CET ➡ Online ⏲ Workshop agenda: https://lnkd.in/eQs9uqar 📝 Registration: https://lnkd.in/eC3AsDCf CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency - CIRCE - Centro Tecnológico - SINTEF - Universidad de Cantabria - CSIC - Università degli Studi di Genova - Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH) - Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant - Novis - APRIA Systems S.L. - DRAXIS Environmental S.A. - A4F-Algae for Future - GoodFuels - ArcelorMittal Belgium - HyChem SA - Grupo Cementos Portland Valderrivas - Steinbeis Europa Zentrum - RINA #EnergyCarriers #CarbonCapture #IndustrialCarbonEmission #SustainableDevelopment #RenewableEnergy #GreenTechnology #collaboration

In September 2023, the first call in the Nordic Grand Solutions Programme was successfully closed with strong Nordic representation. Now, after a thorough evaluation, Nordic Energy Research is pleased to announce that four projects of the 35 proposals have been selected to receive funding. The projects that will receive funding are: SpeedLocal: The project shall accelerate a Nordic green transition through trans-Nordic and transdisciplinary collaboration, and navigate national planning, local implementation, and social acceptability. Project leader: Markus Wrake, CEO at Energiforsk AB (Swedish Energy Research Centre) Hi-EFECTS: A Nordic consortium that brings together academic institutions and company partners. It will develop New Engine Combustion Technologies for future sustainability objectives targeting net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and policy updates. Project leader: Ossi Kaario, Associate professor at Aalto University Best4Grid: The aim of the project is to enable the widespread implementation of green transport and the vehicle-to-everything technology, by providing technical solutions, a common legislative framework, business strategies, and a roadmap tailored for the Nordics. Project leader: Fredrik Haglind, Professor at DTU - Technical University of Denmark MoreH2: Large quantities of green hydrogen are much-needed to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors such as steel and transport. To facilitate this, MoreH2 will further develop two electrolysis technologies, Proton Exchange Membrane and Solid Oxide. Project leader: Jan Froitzheim, Professor at Chalmers tekniska högskola (Chalmers University of Technology) Read more about the four projects: https://lnkd.in/dT4bBk5F Read more about the Nordic Grand Solutions Programme: https://lnkd.in/ducrcZ73 #Nordic #Energy #GreenTransition #Sustainability

Following on from my post on the populairty and potential of rooftop solar PV, I found the recently published study below (click on the link, the graphic is not pointing to the right thing), which sees 75% of all residential dwellings in Europe being self sufficient (but not going off-grid). If true, this is an astonishing figure, as it implies 25% of residual energy and/or serivcesw coming from the centralized grid, which is higher than the 50% that we estimated for the ENA in Autralia as part of the network transformation roadmap over five years ago now. I do note that the report is probably analysing generation over the year, and not on an hourly basis. Actual supply of dwellings on an hourly basis will require more resources, which are not necessarily long duration storage. An alternative, and one we are seeing in Australia, is oversizing rooftop solar, so that it meets requirements in the dead of winter. The excess that it generates can be constrained off if needs be, or potentially be delivered to new seasonal loads emerging to take advantage of it. https://lnkd.in/gRJgJXgY
