The 2023 interns are near the completion of their summer program. So much of what many think they know about our business is misrepresented. James Lovett details his LourdMurray experience and how his time is helping to counterbalance what he thought he already knew about money.

As a parent, there are moments that fill your heart with pride and a touch of nostalgia. Today, I experienced one of those moments when I saw my son Jake Childers pop up on my LinkedIn feed, celebrating their internship Blue Trust.
Watching them grow, learn, and now step into the professional world is incredibly rewarding. It feels like just yesterday they were taking their first steps, and now they’re making strides in their career.
This journey has been filled with countless lessons, both for them and for me. Here are a few reflections:
1. Embrace Change: Seeing your child transition from the classroom to the workplace is a reminder that change is constant and growth is inevitable. Embrace it with open arms.
2. Celebrate Small Wins: Every accomplishment, no matter how small, is a step forward. Celebrate these moments to build confidence and momentum.
3. Mentorship Matters: Encourage them to seek mentors and also be one yourself. Sharing experiences and insights can make a significant difference in their journey.
4. Stay Curious: The world is evolving rapidly. Encourage them to stay curious and keep learning, adapting to new challenges and opportunities.
5. Support and Trust: As they embark on their career path, your support and trust in their abilities mean the world to them. Be their biggest cheerleader.
To all the parents out there witnessing similar milestones, let’s cherish these moments and continue to guide our children as they make their mark in the world. And to Jake Childers, I couldn’t be prouder of you. Here’s to many more achievements and learning experiences ahead! 🌟

I am so incredibly proud of my team from this summer’s internship who produced this piece on financial literacy for Gen Z written by Gen Z. Please read their research and unique insight into how investment and wealth managers can better educate their generation

Excited to release the second Opinion Snapshot from our summer 2023 interns. All of our research is written through the eyes of our first generation Gen Z interns - but this vertical - on financial education - is particularly relevant to investment and wealth managers, as it is first hand insight on how to reach this group. We are very grateful to our two mentors, Emily Pachuta, who has deep experience at BlackRock and Invesco US at the intersection of data and marketing/demand creation, and Shamim I. of BlackRock, who became our first intern (class of 2020) to become a mentor. Great job by Rhyme Z. of Hamilton College, Santiago Molina of Providence College, Anthony Toumazatos of Davidson College, Amira T. of Providence College and Debora Arteaga of University of Richmond. As a reminder, Sapere Aude Consortium, Inc.‘s purpose is to do our share to increase economic diversity in investment and wealth management. But, our mission to achieve this - is to help these juniors better access paid, rising senior internships. Please reach out to them directly or to us if you would like to discuss their research or an internship opportunity.
I should add that these are PAID internships. Not only does this make our internships accessible to those who can’t afford to work for free, there is a noticeable difference in the quality and consistency of their work over the span of the semester. It is a lot easier to give more to an organization when they are compensating you for your time. At the very least, I believe we need to be paying interns enough to cover the indirect expenses that come with a job (gas, meals, clothing, etc.).

What an honor it was to hear from Carri Lockhart yesterday! It was great to hear all about her experience in the energy industry and the passion she has for what she does. Some of the biggest lessons I took from her presentation are:
➡ Learning the fundamentals is key. The best leaders know all of the ins-and-outs of their companies, down to every detail.
➡ Own your career path— have an authentic mentor, build a network, and find executives that inspire you.
➡ Sacrifices will happen during your career. It's easy to make an excuse, but it's hard to follow through.

Thank you to Independent Williams Board member Carri Lockhart who stopped by our office in Tulsa this week to share about her career – including time in Africa – and why the world needs clean energy. What a special experience for some of our summer interns to get early career advice from such a noteworthy leader! #MoreThanAnInternship
