Great news! We have closed our seed round – the largest known seed round in the global cement industry and a crucial step for us to accelerate our efforts in the near term. Cement’s 8% of global CO2 emissions were recently considered ‘hard-to-abate’, as in difficult to reduce with available technology. We’re debunking that notion, by putting a truly resource-efficient, circular, and high-performing cement on the market, with an ultra-low CO2 footprint. Not just making cement’s emissions evidently abatable, but also one of the most cost-efficient ways for companies to lower their carbon footprint. Not in five or ten years, but here and now. A big thank you to BackingMinds and Polar Structure AB for your continued support, and to Zacua Ventures for joining our efforts to decarbonize the built environment and enable a green society at speed. More to come soon! Go team! 🚀Zacua Ventures investment announcement - we are excited to announce our backing of CemVision, the most advanced next-gen green cement technology available! It's a pleasure to join forces with the talented team at CemVision including Oscar Hållén, Max Larsson von Reybekiel, Claes Kollberg, and Paul Sandberg, as well as our excellent co-investors BackingMinds – Susanne Najafi and Sara Resvik- and Polar Structure AB– Robin Ivroth, alongside existing investors EQT Foundation, Norrsken, and Breakthrough Energy . 💡While it might be common knowledge among our industry peers, it's worth noting that #concrete is the second most consumed material globally, following water. Unfortunately, it's also one of the largest #carbon emitters, primarily due to the inclusion of #cement, a fine powder acting as a binder, which accounts for approximately 8% of all carbon pollution 👀Last year alone, the world produced over 4 billion metric tons of cement, resulting in about 600kg of CO2 emissions for every ton produced👀 🌱CemVision team is re-inventing cement: replacing everything that’s bad about it with a product that is economical, circular, environmentally friendly, and technically superior. Their proprietary technology utilizes industrial by-products from steelmaking and mining – essentially #recycled industrial waste – instead of virgin limestone, and #electrifies the heating production process turning cement into a sustainable material.

#Throwback to our decarbonization roundtable When it comes to developing a low-carbon product, partners all along your value chain are crucial. 🤝 For that purpose, Lhoist organized a roundtable with customers across different sectors such as energy, steel, cement, and construction, opening discussions around decarbonization, presenting decarbonization projects at Lhoist and the roll-out of LEVEL|GREEN®: Low-carbon lime. We thank all the participants for their engagement to build this decarbonized and bright future together. We also thank Intysify for their involvement in organizing this roundtable and for facilitating the dialogue among the industrial players. Together for a decarbonized industry!

The global cement production industry accounts for about 8% of carbon emissions annually. It’s usually made by heating limestone, a carbonate rock, using fossil fuel-fired kilns. That’s a double whammy of CO2 emissions. Now, in the race to decarbonize the $410 billion global cement industry, scientists are creating new ways to produce it, and startups like Brimstone, Fortera and Massachusetts-based Sublime Systems are putting those new methods to work with a process that doesn’t emit CO2. It avoids all CO2 emissions, both from the fossil fuel and from the limestone. (CNBC)

Blastr to explore together with Lhoist the possibility to use green lime and dolomite in Inkoo, an important step to fully decarbonise the steel value chain
Blastr partners with Lhoist for the supply of low-carbon lime and dolime and to develop a scalable decarbonized value chain for ultra-low CO₂ steel production in Europe. “Initiating cooperation with Lhoist for the possible use of LEVEL|GREEN® low carbon lime and dolime could aid Blastr’s Scope 3 embodied emissions reduction by as much as 50 kg CO₂ per tonnes of steel,” says Mikael Lindvall, Chief Technology Officer at Blastr. https://lnkd.in/d997ws2p

#Aluminum Norwegian metals producer Norsk Hydro has expanded its primary aluminum plant in Årdal, Norway, to incorporate a new recycling unit capable of processing 25,000 metric tons of postconsumer aluminum scrap annually. Eivind Kallevik, an executive vice president at Hydro, highlights the rising demand for low-carbon aluminum, particularly in sectors like automotive manufacturing. The modified casting line will blend primary aluminum, produced using renewable hydropower, with up to 30 percent postconsumer aluminum scrap, resulting in a significant reduction in carbon emissions. The official opening of the recycling unit took place on April 10, marking a milestone in Hydro's efforts to deliver low-carbon aluminum, branded as Reduxa 3.0, to the European market. Hydro aims to achieve net-zero aluminum production by 2050, with a 30 percent reduction in emissions targeted by 2030. #Aluminum #mine #recycling #metal #sustainable #metalforcast #EUROPE #Norway
